Essiac also known as phyto BJS is a very popular alternative medicine for cancer. It was discovered by a Canadian nurse Rene Caisse, Essiac is her name spelt backwards. She dained to have obtained the herbal tea formula from a native Ojibawa medicine man who cure cancer, she kept the formula secret for over 60 years using it to treat cancer patients in her own clinic until she died at the age of 91, in 1978.
Some doctors that were impressed with her cancer cure petitioned the Canadian Government in 1938 to pass a bill permitting her to practice medicine in the province of Ontario for the treatment of cancer, however the bill failed by 3 votes, she later closed her clinic when ‘An Act for the Investigation of Remedies for Cancer’ was passed into law by the virtue of this legislation it now meant she will have to reveal her formula, this led her to close her clinic for she did not want to reveal her formula.
